With its harbour destroyed by the volcano Volcan Negro in 1706, Garachico has become a prosperous colony with many fine mansions.

There are some interesting sights in Garachico including the Museo de las Ciencias Naturales which educates the visitor of the locale and demonstrates how the lava hit in 1706.

The Casa de la Cultura was originally the monastery Convento de San Francisco which pre-dates the volcano and is now home to local events.

The Parque Puerta de Tierra is part built on the site of the hardbour.

Interesting Fact: the huge arch which is situated at the town square was once at the entrance to the harbour. The local's dug this out of the lava to preseve it for posterity.
